Year 9 options

Many Year 9 students are feeling quite confused and daunted right now about the transition to GCSE. So how can you support them with this huge milestone in their education?

Each school will differ when it comes to options choices, so make sure you are well-informed. Attend the Y9 Options events to meet teachers to discuss any queries/concerns.

When you are having conversations with your teenager about options, consider the language you are using.

INSTEAD OF : "Choose a subject based on your favourite teacher." TRY: "What subjects do you really enjoy?"

INSTEAD OF: “You’re going to have so much studying to do!” TRY: "Imagine how rewarding it will be to study towards an end goal and qualification.”

INSTEAD OF: “What do you want be when you grow up?” TRY: "What new subjects would you like to learn more about?”
