GCSE
English Literature

Each lesson includes engaging discussions, model responses, and targeted support – all in a welcoming, motivating environment that encourages progress without pressure.

If you're looking for structured, supportive help with GCSE English Literature, we're here to guide students through the course with clarity and confidence.

My small-group GCSE English Literature sessions are designed to support Year 10 and Year 11 students working towards the AQA specification. We explore a wide range of set texts including Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, A Christmas Carol, Power and Conflict poetry, and Love and Relationships poetry. Lessons on other set texts are available, dependent on demand.

In every session, students will:

  • Line drawing of a person with a star above their head and lines radiating outward, symbolizing achievement or recognition.

Build confidence with key context so they can understand what shaped the text and its messages.

  • Illustration of a stack of six books with different sizes and a simple outline style.

Explore main characters and central themes, digging deeper into what makes these works relevant.

  • Outline of a document and pencil, representing writing or editing.

Practise planning and writing exam-style answers, with clear guidance on how to meet the mark scheme.

  • A digital illustration of a brain inside a light bulb, symbolizing ideas and creativity.

Gain the knowledge, structure, and skills needed to feel more in control and less overwhelmed.

What type of texts do I help with?

These small-group sessions are designed to support students in Year 10 and Year 11 preparing for the AQA GCSE English Literature exams. We focus on developing a strong understanding of the key exam texts, with regular lessons on:
Macbeth
Romeo and Juliet
A Christmas Carol
Power and Conflict poetry
Love and Relationships poetry

Support with other AQA set texts is available on request, depending on interest and availability.

Why do I recommend group sessions?

My group sessions are fast-paced, engaging, and full of energy, with a rich mix of ideas, perspectives, and interpretations. Students learn a great deal from hearing how others approach a task, explain a concept, or structure a response.

This kind of collaborative environment is especially valuable in English, where discussion, debate, and multiple viewpoints help students deepen their understanding. Over time, students also build the confidence to speak up, share their thinking, and respond to others, which is an essential skill both for the classroom and for life beyond school.

Meet your tutor

Hi, I’m Zoe, the founder of Charles Education. With 24 years of teaching experience and a background as a qualified examiner, I help students master the skills they need for success in English Language and Literature. I know what examiners are looking for, and I use that knowledge to guide students clearly and confidently through their GCSE journey.

What sets my teaching apart is more than subject expertise.

I focus on building self-belief, creating a calm and supportive learning environment where students feel safe to ask questions, make mistakes, and learn without fear. My lessons are designed to meet each learner where they are, whether they’re aiming for a secure pass or pushing for a top grade.

Learning with me means clear structure, expert feedback, and support that goes beyond the classroom. Students feel more confident, more capable, and more in control of their progress.
