Focused support for Paper 1 Reading and Paper 2 Directed Writing & Composition

Preparing for the Cambridge IGCSE English Language exam can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re juggling comprehension, analysis, and creative writing all at once. My group tuition sessions are designed to make the exam feel manageable, structured and enjoyable!

These sessions are tailored to support students sitting the Cambridge IGCSE English as a First Language (0990/0500), with focused practice on both papers:

Paper 1: Reading

We focus on how to:

  • Understand and evaluate texts from a range of genres

  • Analyse language and structure clearly and confidently

  • Summarise key information effectively

  • Apply skills consistently across all question types

Paper 2: Directed writing
and composition

I model, guide and support students in the following areas:

  • Writing in a range of non-fiction formats (letters, articles, reports, speeches)

  • Planning and writing creative compositions that are original and effective

  • Using tone, audience awareness and structure to gain top marks

  • Editing and improving their writing with examiner-style feedback

Each of my sessions provide:

    Exam-style questions and model answers

    Marking criteria explained clearly

  • Icon of papers and a pencil representing writing or editing.

    Targeted feedback on student work

Why do I recommend group sessions?

My group sessions are fast-paced, engaging and full of energy, with a rich mix of ideas, perspectives and interpretations. Students learn a great deal from hearing how others approach a task, explain a concept, or structure a response.

This kind of collaborative environment is especially valuable in English, where discussion, debate and multiple viewpoints help students deepen their understanding. Over time, students also build the confidence to speak up, share their thinking, and respond to others, which are essential skills both for the classroom and for life beyond school.

Ms. Zoe provided private lessons to my son Omar during his GCSE studies and course work. This was the best decision I made, as she gave him a great chance to improve his coursework in a short period, using the required materials and interactive technology.  The online sessions were fun and effective! Thanks Again Ms.Zoe for your great effort!

Meet your tutor…

Hi, I’m Zoe, the founder of Charles Education. With 24 years of teaching experience and a background as a qualified examiner, I help students master the skills they need for success in English Language and Literature. I know what examiners are looking for, and I use that knowledge to guide students clearly and confidently through their GCSE journey.

What sets my teaching apart is more than subject expertise.

I focus on building self-belief, creating a calm and supportive learning environment where students feel safe to ask questions, make mistakes and learn without fear. My lessons are designed to meet each learner where they are, whether they’re aiming for a secure pass or pushing for a top grade.

Learning with me means clear structure, expert feedback, and support that goes beyond the classroom. Students feel more confident, more calm and more in control of their progress.
