Paper 1 requires students to analyse a Shakespeare and 19th-century novel extract while also demonstrating secure knowledge of the whole text.
Many students can spot language techniques but struggle to link their ideas to the writer’s bigger message across the play or novel.
In these sessions, I show students exactly how to move from simple comments to thoughtful, whole-text analysis that earns higher marks.
AQA Paper 1 English Literature
Paper 2 brings a different challenge. Students must write with confidence about the modern text, make clear and purposeful comparisons in the poetry anthology, and respond thoughtfully to unseen poetry under timed conditions.
Each section demands a slightly different approach — and knowing how to adapt is key to success.
